Tanya Smith MS, OTR / L

Tanya Smith joined InterPlay Therapy as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist in October, 2011. She has experience treating a broad range of pediatric disorders including Sensory Processing Dysfunction, Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD, Down Syndrome, and congenital limb deformity.  She understands that each child is unique and strives to create a fun and goal directed environment to improve upon fine motor, gross motor, modulation, motor planning, and sensory processing skills.

Tanya earned a B.S. in Community Health at Florida Gulf Coast University, and was awarded a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from Florida Gulf Coast University. She graduated with honors, was nominated for membership in the Occupational Therapy Honors Society, and was a member of her Student Occupational Therapy Association.  Upon graduation she has taken courses in Kinesio Taping, Sensory Processing, and Play Therapy.  She has had intense mentorship in using Sensory Integration based occupational therapy for the past 4 years. Her greatest accomplishment as a pediatric OT thus far was receiving her Sensory Integration and Praxis Test (SIPT) certification this past summer.  She also takes great pride in teaching up and coming OT students about the SI approach and pediatric disorders.

In addition to working with the pediatric population, Tanya enjoys remaining active in her community through sports and extracurricular activities.  She uses her fun loving personality and teamwork attitude to engage each and every child throughout their treatment sessions.  Tanya is reputed among all her clients for her family-centered and sensory approaches to therapy.  She enjoys her work as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and often reflects on the daily life changing experiences a facility like InterPlay offers.

We have been a part of the InterPlay family since our three children, who all have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder began receiving therapy over 3 years ago. They embraced our children right from the start and took on the challenge of meeting their varying occupational needs. Using patience, persistence and creativity, the staff helped each of our children develop (and continue to develop) the skills they desperately needed to be successful in school and in life. The staff has been wonderful not only to our children but to us, the parents as well. They have worked with us and provided flexibility with insurance issues, scheduling, and personal needs. They truly care about the progress of our children. We feel so fortunate to have found a center that provides both excellent therapy and genuine care in the service they provide to our family.
